Sunset Hot Air Balloon Tour
Soar Alongside the San Juan Mountains of Pagosa Springs on a Sunset Hot Air Balloon Ride!
Don’t miss out! Our sunset tours are offered only during the months of November through February.
Make Your Tour Private
Flying above Pagosa Springs is a magical experience to share, but if you’re looking for a more intimate experience we offer private and group bookings!
What to Expect on Your Hot Air Balloon Ride

Our guests are welcomed at sunrise while the mountain air is calm and stable.
Get “hands-on” by assisting with balloon inflation and launch!

Climb aboard our basket for the flight of a lifetime!
We fly inches over local lakes, snag some souvenir pine cones from the tops of trees, and enjoy a panoramic view of 4 states.

Listen to a history of Pagosa while riding the peaceful breezes with the hawks, ospreys, and bald eagles.
As a team, you’ll assist with deflation, and pack up for our closing ceremony!

You’ll then experience the 200-year-old tradition of a champagne celebration from the earliest days of ballooning in France.
Enjoy snacks and juice while receiving your flight certificate.
You’ll spend 30 minutes in the air, but plan on 2 to 2 1/2 hours for the entire experience.
Although hot air ballooning is an adventure for all ages, we discourage flyers under the age of 5. The noise of the burners can be loud and scary to younger children but the choice is left up to each family.
For safety reasons, all hot air balloon flights are heavily dependent upon weather. A flight may be cancelled due to wind, cloud cover, rain or extended periods of snow.
Winds are calmest in the morning, which is why our flights are early.
We get weather reports from a federally authorized government agency. If a flight is cancelled due to weather, you’ll receive a phone call from us as soon as we know (that morning or the night before), and a chance to reschedule or a full refund.
Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures has a large basket that can carry 10-12 passengers depending on the time of year and outside air temperature.
During our busy season, we may book up to 20 people and do flights back-to-back. This means everyone pitches in to inflate the balloon and the first group will fly while the others watch and follow in our van. Then, the second group will fly. Afterwards, we’ll all deflate and pack the balloon away.
Please note that back-to-back flights do not cut into your air time.
Because we drift with the winds we’ll return to the original launch site by van for the closing ceremony.
We offer flights year round, depending upon weather. Each season offers its own beautiful views.
Check Availability to view our calendar and see what days are available.
What to expect on a sunset flight: you’ll be assisting in inflating and deflating the balloon (unless you choose not to), walking over uneven terrain and climbing in and out of the basket. Temperatures will change throughout the experience as well.
- Dress comfortably for the season and in layers
- Wear sturdy shoes (no sandals)
- In the winter, the burner will help keep you warm and we recommend wearing snow boots
- Sunglasses, hats and consider wearing sunscreen

“This place was AWESOME! Austin was our pilot and he was fantastic. We booked this last minute and I’m so glad we did. The views are unlike anything else and you can barely tell the balloon is moving through the air. All in all a 10/10.”

Best Secret in Pagosa
“Best experience in Pagosa Springs and we went to two hot springs, two outdoor concerts, went shopping downtown and made glass art.
We have been tandem paragliding in the Alps and the hot air balloon ride was right up there with that. We felt completely safe and excited from my 75 year old mother to my 18 year old daughter- we all enjoyed ourselves and would recommend it to anyone.

Soaring Over Pagosa Springs
“Oh my goodness… bucket list travels! What an experience! The take off was so gentle and easy… soon we were floating over Pagosa… SO quiet… the only sound was the whoosh of the burner and fan filling the balloon with hot air.
The views are spectacular! I just can’t explain the beauty, the wonder, the awe. Never once did we feel insecure or fearful… we felt so safe in the pilot’s care. What a WONDERFUL experience – what a precious ride!“
